ECC Cheerleading Competition- Waterford High School
We are so proud of our Wheeler Lady Lions! They finished second place in Division III and took home the Spirit Award. There were three special individual award winners as well- Adele Cherenzia (Sportsmanship), Ellen Anderson (Scholar Athlete) and Rose Tardiff (Best all Around). Congratulations ladies!

2024 CIAC Divisional Class S- Killingly High School
On Friday, February 16, 2024- Rylee Kenny pinned Lariell Francisco Soto from the Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech team with a F 2-0 1:06 score/time. (144 lbs. weight class- Round of 16)
Then, Rylee lost a tough match to Michael Maroney from St. Joseph. (144 lbs. weight class- Quarter-Finals)
​
On Saturday, February 17, 2024- Rylee won three straight matches against Amare Barboza- Rocky Hill (F 4-2 1:35), Login Storz- Ledyard (MD 17-8) and Aiden Mantia- Killingly (F 2-2 4:48) to set up a rematch with Maroney for 3rd place.
​
Unfortunately, Rylee was pinned by Maroney (F 2-0 0:55) but finished 4th in 2024 CIAC Divisional Class S Championships. Now he qualifies for the 2024 CIAC Open Wrestling Championship which starts on February 23, 2024.

Wheeler was fortunate enough to have a Girls Gymnastics Collaborative with Norwich Free Academy this winter.
Senior Madison Wagner and Freshman Elsa Kalwara represented Wheeler.
They both had a great season and competed against many gymnasts from across the ECC!

Wheeler MS Girls' Basketball

On Thursday night, the Wheeler Middle School Lady Lions were named the QVJC runner up's in tournament play. Each Lady Lion came to play.
​
Ava Gentes had 8 points and Molly Perkins had 7 points for the night.
​
The girls worked hard throughout the entire season to work as a team and continually make progress.
​
Congratulations Lady Lions on a great season!

Last night the Middle School Lady Lions beat the Killingly Middle School girls 35-33 in overtime in the first round of the QVJC tournament.
​
Molly Perkins had a game high 20 points.
​
Londyn Moss had a clutch lay-up with less than a minute left in overtime to push the Lions ahead.
​
The win was a team effort by everyone and advances Wheeler to the Championship game against Brooklyn, Thursday (2/8) at Griswold High School at 7pm.

Congratulations to our athletes of the week!

Russell Stewart '25 took second at the Highlander Invitational at Portland High School this past Saturday. He pinned his first 3 opponents in his bracket in a total of 4 minutes and 29 seconds. In his final match of the day he was outscored 15-0 by his opponent, the 9th ranked wrestler in New England. Russell had won his last 10 matches with his last loss at the Griswold Invitational on January 13th where he had taken 5th at the tournament.

The girls head into the QVJC tournament as the 3 seed against Killingly on Tuesday (2/6) at Griswold High School.
