Superintendent's Corner

Troy Hopkins, Superintendent of Schools

Message from the Superintendent

It is a privilege to serve as superintendent of North Stonington Public Schools. At the peak of my career as an educator, I have found a community consistently passionate about preparing individuals to lead fulfilling lives while contributing to the success of others and the world. It is tremendously rewarding to be part of the continuous efforts to provide the best possible education for every student.

I would like to share several personal and professional experiences that have shaped my thinking as an educator:

1. The impact of educators:I understand firsthand the profound influence teachers can have on students. My own teachers, especially my music instructors, played a crucial role in my development.

2. Transferable confidence: Success in one area often translates to confidence in others. For me, achievements in trumpet and track and field bolstered my confidence in other pursuits. This underscores the importance of providing diverse opportunities for students to excel.

3. Effective learning conditions: Through my 15 years as a teacher and 17 years as a building administrator across all grade levels, I've come to understand that people of all ages learn best when they understand the purpose, feel invested, and can see their progress. Creating these conditions enhances motivation for all learners.

4. Personal perspective: Having served as school principal to both of my daughters, I've developed a unique perspective that leads me to view all students as my own children. I take great pride in seeing each student succeed.

These experiences have reinforced my commitment to fostering an educational environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.

Sincerely,

Troy Hopkins ( Superintendent Of Schools)
